London Love

London-3In mid September I did a bridal shoot in London. My models for the shoot were Georgie and Andy, and they were great fun! They were posing ‘lovers’ for the day and certainly enjoyed the attention the shoot gave them!

Why I chose London…

I chose London for the shoot as I wanted to capture something a little different for my portfolio. Having photographed London previously (see my previous post) it gave me a lot of ideas for the shoot. I love the urban backdrops of London, the landmarks, the bursts of park greens dotted around the city and also there are so many interesting textures and patterns in the architecture.

The styling…

As soon I got the idea of doing a shoot in London I knew I wanted a bouquet of flowers that had reds in to reflect the iconic red colour that is seen on the buses, telephone boxes, signage etc around London. A particular flower I picked was the protea, I love the texture, and shape of the flower, so this was a must for the bouquet! Nicola, the florist I used (Dinky Flower Design) did such a wonderful job of creating the most beautiful bouquet which several people commented on, on my way into London.

The top half of the dress was fairly fitted, with crotchet detailing to the waist and three quarter length sleeves. The bottom part of the dress had an under skirt and an overlay of lose floaty chiffon. Georgie’s look was completed by a loose up hairdo and the gorgeous bouquet of flowers.

Andy wore a blue/grey suit with a deep red tie to compliment the flowers and to complete the look a small button hole. Andy had a pompadour haircut, styled with slicked back sides and quiff. A very trendy look right now.

London-8-1The shoot…

We all met on a Saturday morning in the centre of London at Westminster. The city of Westminster is part of the West End, on the north bank of the River Thames. It was an overcast day and very windy on the river front! We started the shoot along south side of the Thames and you will see a number of photographs the Palace of Westminster was situated in the background, commonly known as the houses of parliament. It was important to me to capture some of the landmarks within the shoot, as we were in London after all. The iconic red is is not only seen on the telephone boxes in the photos but also some small hints can be seen in the distance from buses passing on the bridge. The red telephone boxes and buses are often seen as a British cultural icon throughout the world and are a recognised symbol of the city.

After the Thames we headed towards St James’ Park and took the road down Great George Street. Here we were able to get some photographs at an famous photo spot of the the red telephone box with Big Ben in the background. We had lots of attention here from tourists, and they even took photographs of ‘the lovers’! This pair didn’t mind striking a pose!

After taking a few snaps in Richmond Park we then headed off down the back streets looking for interesting architectural/ textural/ colourful backdrops… and I found the most beautiful stripy wall. It really made some stunning photographs. You will see in the photos… and of course I wanted to photograph the famous London brick. The Westminster Chapel was built from the bricks, so was perfect for this. Whilst we were at the chapel a passer by played a love song on his guitar to Georgie and Andy, obviously the pair were in giggles of laughter. Bless the man, who thought it was their wedding day. How lovely would it have been if it actually was!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos…London-5London-2-1London-6London-12-1London-14London-16-1 London-19London-20London-28-1London-21-1London-23London-25 London-27-1London-32 London-31-1 London-33 London-34London-37-1 London-35London-38-1London-45 London-40-1London-47London-41-1 London-43 London-48-1 London-51 London-46 London-52 London-54 London-55 London-53-1London-56 London-57-1 London-62 London-58-1 London-59-1 London-65 London-66 London-67 London-68London-69-1 London-70 London-71-1 London-76 London-75London-78London-80-1London-77London-81London-84-1 London-86 London-83-1London-90-1London-101-1London-104London-91 London-104-1London-108 London-94 London-95 London-96 London-97 London-98 London-107London-105-1 London-100London-106
